  1. I’ve not seen this variety, Maria. It is beautiful. I’ve had another plant whose leaves would turn red in sunlight, but I can’t remember what it was. I recently discovered that some Opuntias will turn red in cold weather, around the edges. It’s a very pretty combination, too.

I was thinking of getting one of these kalanchoes after seeing yours, but I found that they’re toxic to dogs and cats. Ah, well.

    • Thank you! They’ve had a lot of their plants become endangered over there too. Habitat destruction and hunting have threatened many of Madagascar’s endemic species or driven them to extinction.

      • Madagascar is the world’s principal supplier of vanilla, cloves and ylang-ylang. Agriculture (including raffia, a palm), fishing and forestry support the economy.
